Site Inspection by Build Phase: What to Check Before the Inspector Shows Up
By the time the inspector arrives, you want confirmation that the job is ready, not a new problem that stops the next trade. That starts with your own site inspection: a check that the work matches the approved plans and local requirements, while everything the inspector needs…

Construction Tracking: How to Protect Margin by Monitoring Time, Cost, and Progress
Most jobs aren't tracked; they're reconstructed. Receipts sit in a truck for a week before anyone assigns them to a line item. Hours get remembered instead of logged. What's actually done on site gets pieced together from a text thread days after the fact. Construction tracking…

Margin vs Markup: What’s the Difference and Why It Matters for Builders
Every time you price a job, you’re adding markup to your costs. But the number you really care about is your margin (how much profit you’re making on the job). Markup and margin aren’t the same thing, but they are connected. Set up your markup correctly, and you’ll hit your…

Construction Change Orders: What They Are, How They Work, and How to Manage Them
Even if, like a lot of builders, you don’t have a formal change order process in place, changes are still happening. They pop up when the homeowner asks if it's possible to move a window location or add an outlet “while you’re at it.” Formalizing such small changes might feel…
